addGlossary('Technical Standard Safety Authority', '
TSSA is an organization dedicated to increasing public safety in the home, workplace and at recreational facilities. It was created in 1996 as a not-for-profit, self-funded delegated administrative authority to administer and enforce public safety laws in Ontario in designated industry sectors. It is also involved in the training and certification of operating engineers and technicians.

TSSA has established a Training and Certification Advisory Board to develop and maintain the utilization of a uniform training standard for the qualification, examination and certification of tradespersons in the natural gas, propane and fuel oil industries. All of RIV’s technicians are TSSA licensed.
');
addGlossary('Electrical Standard Authority', '
ESA operated under the Electrical Act, 1998, which empowers it, subject to government approval, to make or amend the Regulations related to the prescribing of the design, construction, installation, protection, use, maintenance, repair, extension, alteration, connection and disconnection of all works and matters used or to be used in the generation, transmission, distribution, retail or use of electricity in Ontario. To ensure compliance with the Regulations, ESA is given the authority to all electrical work and installations in Ontario.

The Authorized Contractor Program (ACP) which RIV Heating Installations is part of, provides a process for recognizing Ontario Electrical Safety Code compliant work, performed by a Contractor bases on current practices and previous work. The ACP provides for safe electrical installations and works on an audit-based process. As such, the Electrical Safety Authority will audit RIV Heating Installations’ heating and cooling installations rather than conduct full electrical inspections.
');
addGlossary('Better Business Bureau', '
The BBB created in 1925 in the USA and expanded to Canada in the 1930s. The BBB is the only organization dedicated to providing reliability reports on businesses to promote ethical business practices and honest advertising in the marketplace. As a marketplace watchdog, the BBB responds to all inquiries and Business/Customer relationship issues.

The BBB is a self-regulated, non-profit organization, supported, owned and controlled by the Members. It is not funded by nor connected to any Government agency. Self-regulation allows the BBB to react quickly and inexpensively to marketplace problems with informal, practical and flexible solutions. BBB membership is a partnership between your business and your community, based on respect and integrity. Because the BBB stands for integrity and honesty, not all businesses can be accepted as BBB members. Membership is by invitation only.
');
addGlossary('Modulating Furnace', '
Furnaces are designed to deliver maximum heat for comfort on the coldest of days. In most cases, those days account for fewer than three percent of winter days. The rest of the time, your furnace is providing more heat than necessary.

Because conventional furnaces are either providing no heat, or at full capacity, the temperature in your house goes up and down by several degrees, adversely affecting your comfort and your energy bills.

Modulating furnaces solve this problem by varying the amount and temperature of air delivered between different capacities, so that the air flowing out of the registers is always at the temperature you determine. This results in lower operating costs, more comfortable temperatures throughout the house and quieter operation.
');
addGlossary('AFUE', '
Used to express the fuel efficiency of gas furnaces. The higher the AFUE rating, the more efficient the unit.

If your furnace was built before 1992, chances are that the heat is lost up the chimney or out the exhaust vent - devices used by older furnaces to expel dangerous fumes created by the furnace, such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, aldehydes, and even soot.

Modern furnaces use more technologically advanced venting techniques to achieve greater energy efficiency. RIV’s qualified technicians will determine if your chimney or exhaust vent is suitable for use with your new equipment.

It must also be noted that the AFUE rating does not take into consideration electrical consumption. The electrical savings of a DC motor furnace are substantial when compared to a conventional high efficiency furnace which operates with an AC motor.
');
addGlossary('Consumers Digest BEST BUY Awards', '
A BEST BUY is defined as a product offering the most value for a given amount of money and must be a better value than directly competitive models. On average, a Consumer Digest BEST BUY rating is awarded to fewer than three percent of the competing models in any given product category.

"Consumers Digest has built a reputation over the last 45 years as a trusted information resource to homeowners across North America for their most important product purchasing decisions". Ruud has receive more design and innovation awards than any since 2003. This award is evidence that Ruud products are satisfying homeowner value expectations by consistently delivering high quality performance and reliability for every consumer dollar invested in home comfort products.
');
addGlossary('ARI', '
The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute is an organization created by HVAC manufacturers to ensure an acceptable level of quality within the industry. ARI is a voluntary, nonprofit organization which publishes ratings standards and benchmarks for testing cooling and heating products. Ruud is an active member of ARI.
');
addGlossary('Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER)', '
A SEER is used to express the efficiency of an air conditioning unit, or a heat pump in cooling mode. The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the unit. Air conditioners contribute directly to the need for new electricity generation, and therefore result in higher rates for electricity customers. As a result, Canada now requires that all air conditioners have a minimum of 13 SEER.
');
addGlossary('Scroll Compressor', '
The most expensive component of any condensing unit is the compressor. Ruud installs Copeland® Compliant Scroll® Compressors throughout its entire residential air conditioning line for proven dependability, efficiency, and sound reduction.
');
addGlossary('BTU', '
Short for British Thermal Unit. The amount of heat required to raise or lower the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit.
');
addGlossary('Ton', '
The ton ratings have nothing to do with the weight of the unit. In fact a ton is simply 12,000 BTUs. A typical Business cooling/heating system uses heat pumps or air conditioners with a capacity of between 1.5 and 5 tons.
');
addGlossary('Heat Recovery Core', '
Certain Venmar Air Exchangers feature a heat recovery system. As warm air is expelled from your house, it warms the incoming cold, fresh air before it’s circulated throughout your home. The result is a constant supply of fresh air, no unpleasant drafts and greater home comfort.
');
addGlossary('Direct Vent', '
All gas fireplaces need a constant supply of fresh air in order to operate. Direct Vent fireplaces have a sealed, glass-fronted combustion chamber that keeps the byproducts of combustion out of the living space. Air is drawn into the firebox from outside the home using a special co-axial flue pipe system. This "pipe within a pipe" also exhausts the flue products outside the home. Direct vent fireplaces offer good efficiency because they don\'t steal heated air from the living space.
');
addGlossary('B-Vent', '
B-Vent fireplaces (sometimes called Top Vent or Natural Vent) draw air into the combustion chamber from inside the home. This fresh air is mixed with gas and burned in the fireplace. The fireplace exhausts the byproducts of combustion outside of your home using a dedicated B-Vent flue pipe. Although fresh air is used from inside your home, products of combustion are never vented into your home.
');
addGlossary('Power Vent', '
Power Vent fireplaces draw air into the combustion chamber via a Power assisted motor and blower from outside the home. This fresh air is drawn into the fireplace, and begins at the exterior Termination, then is pulled through the Venting duct, into the Power vent, and then directed into the fireplace under forced Air movement. The Power vent is usually a requirement if the fireplace is a excessive distance from the exterior of the home, or the fireplace requires the CFM Cubic foot of air movement) of air to be efficient in its combustion. The fireplace then exhausts the by products of combustion outside of your home using one (1) or multiple dedicated flue Vent\'s. Although fresh air is used from outside your home, high BTU fireplaces with Power Venters will inherintly draught some air from inside your home.
');
addGlossary('Ventless', '
A Vent Free fireplace does not use a chimney or flue pipe. These fireplaces burn extremely clean so the byproducts of combustion can be vented back into the room. This eliminates the need for a chimney resulting in lower installation costs. Because they do not send hot flue gases up the chimney, these fireplaces are extremely heat-efficient. All models feature an Oxygen Depletion Sensor for maximum safety.
');
